More than a Million Downloads for Black Eyed Peas Single

The Black Eyed Peas number 1 tune “I Gotta Feeling” has become the first single to be downloaded more than a million times in the United Kingdom. Originally unveiled on 8 June, ‘09, it spent two weeks in the number one spot and a total of thirty-three weeks inside the top 40. Singer Fergie explained: “It’s exhilarating to know we are so connected to our Peabodies.”Hopefully the good vibes from that song will continue to brighten people’s lives.” Martin Talbot, managing director of the Official Charts Company, claimed the milestone was considered “a very significant step for the download market.”It’s been with us for five years but this really marks a coming of age,” he said. Downloading was at first counted within the singles chart in April ‘05, but only if a Disc was for sale in the shops. It was only a year afterwards, downloads became eligible for the chart in their own right, and it was only a month or so soon after, Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy was crowned the first single to reach number 1 with out selling any physical copies. Since that time downloads have come to command the top 40. Nearly 98% of all single sales come from downloading, with nearly one hundred thousand needed each week to access the top spot. Despite the fact that that amount is pretty high when compared to all the rest of the music charts history, there are fears from the music business that it’s covering up a much bigger issue. Record company executives say that thousands and thousands of pounds annually are being lost as a consequence of concerns such as online piracy - in no way aided by the easy accessibility of downloads. Martin Talbot said download single sales are merely one part of the picture. He explained: “Around the world album sales are declining rather dramatically. “But here in the UK things aren’t quite as bad. This isn’t a boom time but it’s not a time for real concern either.” Browse the Black Eyed Peas schedule to discover if they are performing at a place near you on their up and coming Northern American Travels.
