Healthy Eating for a Healthy Heart

On September 09, 2009 in Food

Living healthily involves making many decisions and a lot of will power. Among them is choosing a nutritious diet and a healthy eating plan.

A healthy eating plan consists of a type of modern healthy food pyramid. This pyramid consists of fruits, vegetables and whole grains at the top. These should be consumed in quantity.

Next in the middle of the pyramid we have dairy, meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts. These should be trim cuts where possible, but don’t be obsessive about it - there is no need only to drink ‘low fat’ milk for example. This is one of the biggest misconceptions in modern day nutrition theory - that fat is bad, It’s not, and as with all things should be eaten in moderation. A small amount of fat is essential to being healthy.

Last in the food pyramid is sweets such as chocolate and snacks, such as chips.

A healthy eating plan that helps you manage your weight includes a variety of foods you may not have considered. If “healthy eating” makes you think about the foods you can not have, then try focusing on all the new foods you can eat. These include fresh fruits, fresh vegetables and calcium-rich foods.

Healthy eating is all about balance. You can enjoy your favorite foods, even if they are high in calories, fat or added sugars. The key is eating them only once in a while, and balance them out with healthy ingredients and more physical activity.

You can figure out how to include almost any food in your healthy eating plan in a way that still helps you lose weight or maintain a healthy weight. And there are many tasty treats that are not all that bad for you, one of my favorites is a good banana bread recipe, you can make banana bread at home using healthy ingredients.

Being consistently healthy in your eating choices is the key. Making the same healthy eating choices over time can lead to better eating habits. By thinking more positively and focusing on what you can have, you’ll help yourself establish healthy eating habits, and stick to them!
