Bacon: A Tasty Mystery Revealed Now

On November 18, 2009 in Food

Bacon is deemed to be one of the most delicious foods in Western culture. There are plenty websites devoted to this subject. There are even fan clubs. Amazingly, there are actually Bacon shoes (they are not truly made out of Bacon but are rather made to look as if they have been - do an online query if you do not believe me).

This, perhaps surprising appeal, makes me curious. Who invented bacon? How to cook bacon? Can you microwave bacon? How to make bacon? Can we do this ourselves? Which are the best bacon recipes? Is Bacon Healthy? Why do people love it so much?

Fortunately, the internet is a wonderful place to look for resources for such information. A quick search shows that Bacon is simply cured meat that is made from various parts of a pig. There are many types of bacon which come from different parts of the pig (its belly, its side, its loins, its shoulder and even its cheeks). Additionally, there are countless ways of preparing it: it can be smoked, boiled, fried, baked, grilled, used as a additive in a salad and in many other methods. And certainly,, bacon can most definitely be microwaved (i.e. using a microwave bacon cooker), and this is an action we can do ourselves.

Since Bacon is made from pork (although in some countries, non-pig based bacon-like foods are also referred to as bacon, which is in my humble opinion plainly does not count), is actually not allowed for consumption for followers of Judaism and Islam. Judaism treats pigs as ‘dirty’ or ‘tainted’ creatures and as such, all meats prepared from them are forbidden.

I need to finish, my Bacon Wrapped Sausages is waiting for me. I suggest you go and buy some. You know you want to.
